2021 Community Project - Sanctuary in Creativity
Introducing shadow theatre into local care homes and schools
For the 2020 online festival, care home and sheltered housing residents in Beverley took part in a remotely-created pilot outreach project by Hull-based Anglo-Indonesian puppet company Indigo Moon Theatre. Thanks to the dedication of care home workers Elaine at Figham House, Amber at New House and others, residents now have an ongoing resource for shadow theatre using pre-prepareds kits, a video tutorial and guidance when requested. Some of their work can be seen in the participant gallery.
Thanks to Arts Council England, we have been able to develop this project further, as part of our interim year activities in 2021. We are delighted to have partnered with Beverley Minster on our Sanctuary in Creativity project - reaching not only more care homes but linking up local primary schools to form intergenerational friendships and develop stories. The outcomes of the project were displayed in Beverley Minster in June-July 2021, launching with a shadow puppetry workshop led by Indigo Moon Theatre.
We rely on the generous support of others. Help us to make puppetry accessible to all and reach more people.
Browse through our community projects of the past and discover how puppetry has enriched the lives of East Yorkshire people.
